Will and Intellect: Introduction to Voluntarism

On Tuesday, September 12, 2006, the future Pope Benedict XVI (then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) gave a lecture at the University of Regensburg entitled Faith, Reason and the University; Memories and Reflections. In that lecture, the Pope quoted Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos from a 1391 “dialogue with a Persian.” The quote was perceived as an insult to Islam by many Muslims, and there were protests around the world.

This audio is from the Sunday School class Fr. Pat taught the following Sunday, September 17, 2006. It’s evident from his comments that he made reference to the Regensburg lecture in his homily that morning; unfortunately I have not been able to locate the recording of the homily. I will keep looking!

You can download the full text of the Regensburg Lecture HERE. (The link will open in a new tab.)
